Consultancy Services – Augmentation of Variav-Kosad STP for North Drainage Zone

We delivered expert consultancy services for the augmentation and rehabilitation of the existing 84 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant at Variav-Kosad to increase capacity and incorporate tertiary treatment capabilities. The project aimed to serve the expanding population and industrial demands of the New North Drainage Zone of Surat under a sustainable wastewater treatment framework.

Scope of Work:

  • DPR & Engineering Design: Preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), engineering designs, cost estimates, and evaluation of land requirements for current and future wastewater management needs.
  • Capacity Expansion & Technological Upgradation: Augmentation of STP capacity from 84 MLD to 134 MLD with integration of advanced treatment technologies including SBR, MBBR, and BNR/BPR.
  • Tender Support: Preparation of tender documents and facilitation of techno-financial evaluation for capital works including long-term O&M.
  • Automation: Installation of PLC–SCADA systems for real-time monitoring and centralized control via SMC’s SCADA room.

Impact:

This project has transformed the Variav-Kosad STP into a state-of-the-art treatment facility, capable of supporting the expanding North Zone of Surat with efficient, tertiary-level wastewater treatment. The integration of energy recovery systems via biogas, and automation through SCADA, has ensured both environmental compliance and energy sustainability.

By improving treatment quality and increasing capacity, the project plays a crucial role in enhancing public health, reducing environmental pollution, and contributing to Surat’s vision of becoming a water-resilient and sustainable urban centre.
